YouthConnekt Month and Youth in Holidays Programme launched

The Minister of Youth and ICT Nsengimana Jean Philbert has officially launched the YouthConnekt Month (YCM) and Youth in Holidays Programme (YHP) for secondary school students and youth out of school last Saturday 05 November 2016 in Rulindo District, Northern Province. The YCM and YHP kicked off across the Country with special community work aimed to support vulnerable people. YCM is a youth initiative that came as commitment of Youth to contribute to the national development through hands on activities while YHP was initiated by National Youth Council to prevent the delinquency among students in holidays. Minister Nsengimana urged youth to aim for success by shunning laziness and drowsiness in their lives. He told the youth that the world is populated by two sets of people: losers and winners, advising them to choose the later. “When successful people think of something profitable, they immediately start implementing it. They are courageous, they are risk taker and are optimistic,” he said. “Losers think their future will be determined by others. They do not act fast and are pessimist; they believe in permanent aid, while successful people prefer partnership instead,” he added. YHP happen in November every Thursday of the week whereas YCM occurs in November every Friday of the week and both takes place in all district at cell Level. During the YCM and YHP, young people will conduct hands on activities like building houses for the vulnerable peoples and be shown the available opportunities to create jobs. The youth will also be mobilised to work with financial institutions as well as to embrace a savings culture. Both initiatives organised under the theme: “Youth, let’s make use of the available opportunities to create jobs” will run from November 5 to December 9, 2016.
