Over 2500 Higher learning institutions students participate in civic education

The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the National Itorero Commission, Ministry of Youth and ICT and other Government Institutions launched, on Monday 05th September 2016, the third training session of civic education (Itorero) of INTAGAMBURUZWA which brought together 2,500 trainees from 44 higher leaning institutions.

Participants in this Itorero themed: “Job creation and employment opportunity” are students’ representatives in their respective higher learnings institutions. It is taking place in Univerisity of Rwanda, College of Education, Remera and IPRC Kigali, Kicukiro.

It is expected that these representatives of Rwandan youth studying in local higher learning institutions will be equipped with the skills and attitude for self-employment upon their graduation and will serve as change agents among their colleagues as said Dr. Celestin Ntivuguruzwa, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education.

Besides, these students will be fully aware of various existing opportunities available in the country and in the region as well.

Itorero was restored in Rwanda by H.E. President Paul Kagame in 2007 with the general objective of bringing up a patriotic Rwandans who has values and taboos of the Rwandan culture and who has a culture of Intore.

Itorero important dates in education system 

Itorero has been integrated in Rwanda’s education system at all levels:

  • 20th February 2014, the official Launch of Itorero in Primary and Secondary schools; The first intake of 238 representatives of young Rwandans studying in local higher learning institutions were trained in August 2014 and were named INTAGAMBURUZWA;
  •  The second intakes of 400 trainees (INTAGAMBURUZWA II) were trained in September 2015;
  •  1 October 2014, launch of Urugerero in Higher Learning Institutions by the Prime Minister. 
  • This third intake will be officially closed on 11th September, 2016.
