MPs adopt the Draft law on Cyber Crimes
On this Tuesday, 24th April 2018, Members of Parliament, Chamber of Deputies adopted the relevance of the Draft law on cybercrimes. The draft was presented by Honorable Jean de Dieu Rurangirwa; The Minister of Information Technology and Communications (MiTEC). Addressing to the MPs, Honorable Jean de Dieu Rurangirwa stated that criminals are using cyber space as nowadays a big number of people is depending on it. “Increasing use of the Internet and other digital technologies increases our vulnerability to cyber threats, increasing dependence on cyberspace has brought new risks. Criminals are increasingly using cyber space to gain access to personal information, steal businesses’ intellectual property, and gain knowledge of sensitive government-held information for financial or political gain or other malicious.” Moreover, Honorable Minister stressed on the relevance of the Draft, which is to address the challenge stated above. “The present Draft Law aims to meet this challenge, with due respect to human rights in the new Information Society.” He added. After deep discussions related to the Draft law, all the members of the Parliament: Chamber of Deputies who attended the plenary session adopted it in numbers: fifty-eight (58) out of fifty-eight (58).
