MITEC hosted a high level validation workshop on a strategy to promote local digital content.
On this Thursday; September 6, 2018, the Ministry hosted a high level validation workshop of a strategy on how to promote local digital content and its implementation plan; which was attended by various institutions.
The aim of the Strategy is to ensure that significant local digital content is produced, disseminated and commercialized. Digital content is creating lots of jobs worldwide and it is expected that 10, 000 off farm jobs will be created in Rwanda.
Addressing to the participants, the Ministry Permanent Secretary Lt. Col. François Regis Gatarayiha thanked them and invited them to have their inputs heard, for their comments were to be critical for the strategy amelioration and thus more responsive of the Rwandan needs.
“We have been working on this strategy for three months; some consultations have been made at different levels. Today we want to share the work that we have completed and we expect you to review this strategy document. This strategy is to help us maximize on the benefits that come with the adoption of other strategies already implemented.” He said.
The legal framework, however is still an issue and it was highlighted that once the strategy will be adopted one of the benefits that it will come with will be that of addressing and solving this otherwise set back.
This workshop was a high level one, however subsequent workshops and consultations were previously held with technicians and other experts in digital content creation and distributions. The public sector, media houses, local hosting, and creative industries were invited for consultation. Their inputs and comments were considered and factored in this strategy document.
