Don’t just dream big, think big and aim high – President Kagame tells youth

Sunday, 11 September 2016 – President Paul Kagame has called on the youth to not only dream big, but also think big and aim high in all they do. The President was speaking to more that 2,000 student leaders from public and private higher learning institutions across the country at the closing of their weeklong civic education training ‘Itorero’ dubbed ‘Intagamburuzwa’. In his remarks, President Kagame elaborated more on the three choices that Rwandans made in the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi: Unity, Accountability, and Thinking big. “Our country may be small but our people think big. Don’t just dream big, you have to think big and aim high. Our borders do not limit our ideas. You must be accountable to yourself, to others and be ready to play our role,” President Kagame said. The Head of State further reiterated that as much as education serves to shape one’s identity, what they become is a result of how hard they work. He emphasized that Itorero helps mold Rwandans into drivers of their own identity and the country’s economic growth. “I hope that you have learned lessons that build you up because when you are better, the country is better. We will not achieve anything if you don’t play your part. Take ownership and strive to see this country transformed,” President Kagame stressed. President Kagame pointed out that Rwandans cannot afford to see their country go to waste anymore. “We don’t want to be a country of waster abilities and skills. We cannot afford to waste anything in this country. The strength of your thought and ability cannot go to waste,” President Kagame told youth leaders from varsities across the country. The President also held an interactive session where he exchanged ideas, suggestions and issues of concern with the student leaders convened in Intagamburuzwa. First Lady Jeannette Kagame, cabinet ministers, senior government officials and members of the private sector, also attended the closing of Itorero Intagamburuzwa.
